Welsh Country Socks

This pattern was made with two skeins of Five Oaks Ranch: Solace in "Sumatra" and "Natural".  The pattern is worked using Cat Bhordi's Foxglove pathway.  Click on the picture for the pattern.

Yarn: Argosy: Five Oaks Ranch “Solace” Color(s) : Sumatra

Rib Pattern (from “Folk Socks: Country Socks”:

Multiple of 8 sts

 

Rnd 1 and 2: K1, p1, *K5, p1, k1, p1* ending k5, p1.

 

Rnd 3 and 4: P2, *K5, p3* ending k5, p1.

 

Repeat rounds 1 thru 4.

 

Instructions:

Cast on 6 sts and work as follows: Using “Natural” color cast on and work whirlpool toe until 64 sts are on needles (divided between 2 circs 32 on each needle).  Work 12 rows then change to “Sumatra”.  Begin working stitch pattern on Instep only.  After working to “E” begin arch expansion.  Work increases every third row on the sole, five sts in from each side working as follows: k5, LLinc knit to 5 sts before end of sole, LRinc.  Continue until all increases have been made.

 

Heel Turn: Add the “J” sts to the wing (“H”) sts.  On the next row; begin the transfer of sts from sole to instep.  Change to Natural and work Heel Turn.  Change back to Sumatra and knit the first round, then, on the next round continue in pattern.

 

Leg: work pattern on ENTIRE SOCK, both instep and sole for desired length. 

 

Cuff: Change to “Natural” and work welt ribbing as follows:

 

Rnd 1: P2, * k2, p1, k2, p3*  ending k2, p1, k2, p1.  Continue for 15 rounds total.  Bind off loosely.
